Keen bakers will have a rare opportunity for their cakes, bakes and biscuits to be judged by a celebrity chef on Tuesday 24 May, when Lesley Waters, TV chef and owner of Lesley Waters Cookery School in Halstock, takes on the role of head judge at Brimsmore Gardens’ Cake Off in Yeovil. Judging will start at 3pm in The Apple Tree Restaurant, as part of a special Summer Tea Party, which is open to the public to attend. This new baking competition, which will raise money for Yeovil Community Arts Association (YCAA), a local charity run by volunteers who organise international writing competition, the Yeovil Literary Prize, is now open for entry.
With three categories, including Celebration Cake, Afternoon Tea Cake and Batches and Tray Bakes, everyone is welcome to enter, whether they have a flair for icing or make a simply delicious lemon drizzle. Cath Collins, group food manager from The Gardens Group, explains; “With provenance at the heart of our ethos at The Apple Tree Restaurant and Farm Shop, our head judge, Lesley Waters, will be keeping an eye out for the use of locally sourced ingredients, any home grown elements and of course the look and taste of the cake.”
The competition closes for entry on Monday 16 May and entry costs £5 per cake. Entry forms can be downloaded at www.thegardeneronline.co.uk.
