Over 100 different scarecrow designs were entered into a competition organised by the farm shop at Brimsmore Garden Centre and the winning Scarecrows (and their names!) will be unveiled outside the newly refurbished Apple Tree Farm Shop at -
10am on Good Friday, April 6th
The two new Scarecrows will be unveiled, and the Apple Tree Farm Shop officially opened by Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Tony Lock, assisted by Gay Ridgeway who has worked at the farm shop for 27 years.
"We were really happy when so many people entered the scarecrow competition; we had entries from children aged just 3 years old and also from several people over 60! The two winning designs have been made into very lifelike scarecrows and they will stand in two newly-planted vegetable patches outside the new Farm Shop, we are all looking forward to the unveiling and the official opening," said Tony Rash of Brimsmore Garden Centre.
The new Farm Shop has been totally refurbished and the shelves are now stocked with produce from almost 50 local producers. "Seasonal flavours are central to the new Farm Shop and fresh produce, sourced locally, will be the absolute focus of what we offer. Soft fruits will be available at their very best in the right season, early new potatoes when they are sweet and flavoursome, local Somerset apples throughout the growing season and of course bread, eggs, jams, cheeses, ice cream, hams and sausages, all made by local producers all year round. Our customers already know that we work with the seasons in the Garden Centre and they will be able to see this at work to the same extent in the farm shop too," said Tony Rash.
At the official opening there will be chance to sample local produce from; Somerset Local Food Direct, Dorset Country Farms, Somerset Cider Brandy, Roberts Sauces, Olives Et Al, Longmans Cheese, Teonis Cookies, The Chocolate Workshop and many others.
The Apple Tree Farm Shop, Brimsmore Garden Centre, Tintinhull Road, Yeovil, is open seven days a week from 9am until 6pm, Telephone 01935 426596.
Scarecrow's names are Oscar Sprout and Merryweather.
